Common Problems With XBox 360 and Laptops

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Any electronic device will get hot and can freeze while working. One can imagine playing a favorite game on Xbox 360 and the mission was almost about to finish when it suddenly freezes and nothing would move. Laptops generate heat just like any electronic device, they already have a cooling system in place and the cooling system is also small because of their small size. It is sometimes insufficient in cooling down the laptop’s processor. A laptop’s bottom can get hot to such an extent that it can burn one’s skin. One wonders why does this happen.

Just like a laptop, an Xbox 360 is also infamous for overheating due to a somewhat inefficient heat removal system. Using it for lengthy periods can cause an Xbox to freeze and overheat; the only solution for this is to power off the console for an hour or so until it cools down. For preventing overheat, the console should be placed in an area which has plenty of air flow and where the console is raised off the ground.

If a laptop gets hot very quickly, the reasons can be blocked air vent, fan not working, too much dirt, may be the battery or the brand. The laptop’s fan and other cooling components are very important to the overall operation of the laptop. If the fan stops working and there is not enough ventilation, the computer will get quickly so hot so that it will even crack the LCD screen.

Too much dirt inside the laptop can damage it. The dirt can block the air flow inside and the processor may not be getting enough cool air. The laptop has to be shut down and the laptop needs an inside cleaning. A laptop’s battery overheating can cause fires. If the battery gets hot, it can even explode so it immediately has to be replaced. A laptop’s brand may be sometimes the reason for the overheating. There are a few laptop brands that are sold to the lower-end market. Quality could have been compromised to keep the manufacturing cost low which will also keep the retail prices low. Selecting the right brand by understanding each laptop brand’s specifications is the right solution.

Microsoft is aware of the freezing problem with Xbox and is happy to exchange a defective one with a new unit complete with shipping and delivery costs. Same problem can still happen if Xbox 360 is operated without care. One must make sure not to use it for long periods without a way for the console to release the heat. It should be placed where there is constant air flow and it should be plugged into a power source with a constant flow of electricity.

Since a user knows that a laptop tends to overheat, it should not be kept running for a long time. If it needs to be used, it should be placed on a table which allows air flow through its vent at the bottom. Another option is to buy a cooling pad that will keep the processor’s engine down to a minimum level. It is important to keep the temperature low to prevent burn out.

Computer Networking – Elements and Components

Friday, January 1st, 2010

When studying computer networks, one must consider the main elements that will compromise the computer network. The main elements that must be considered will be presented below:

1. Message: the message is a generic term that scribes the data to be transmitted. It can be email, webpage, user call, instant message, or any other forms. The message is generated by the end user that needs to make the transmission. This message will be fed to the network later.

Generally, the message is generated using software installed on computer. For example, if the message is email, it will be generated by email programs such as outlook. Also if the message is a web page request, it will be generated by a browser such as internet explorer. It can also be generated by a chatting program is it represents a call by the user.

2. Medium: the medium is the transmission path over which the data will be transmitted. Is is used to connect the end user with the network device or to connect the network devices with each other.

Many types exist for the medium. Mainly it can be wired or wireless medium. The wired medium can be copper or optical fibers. The copper is subdivided into coaxial cables and twisted pairs. The copper wires carry data as electrical pulses while the optical fiber carry data as light pulses. The wireless medium carries data as electromagnetic waves. Each of the above mediums has its own specifications and used according to the application.

3. Devices: there are two basic types of devices in the network: end user devices and network devices. The end user device is considered to be the source of the message. It can be a client computer or an IP phone. The function of the end user device is to send the data to the network.

On the other hand, the network devices are used along with the medium to forward the data generated by the end user device. They are located in between the end user devices and connected between them through the cables.

The main function of the computer network devices is to forward the data to the correct destination based on the address that is send along with the data. The two main devices that accomplish this are the routers and the switches. The router forwards the data according to the IP address while the switch forwards the data according to the MAC address inside the data frame.

4. Rules: the rules are the protocols that used between the end user devices that organize the communication. The two popular protocols are the IP protocol and the TCP protocol. When the end user needs to send the data, it runs a conversation first with the other device according to a set of rules that prepares for the transmission. Each network uses its own protocols set up by the administrator of the network to manage the operations inside the network. Note that this element is a software element and is set up by software programs
